Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I was asked a couple of days ago to run this, as they had a runner get hurt.  It was a real low key thing and I mainly just had fun with it.  I ran the second leg of the marathon relay, and each runner ran about 5.2 miles.  Our first runner came in with a time just under 42 minutes.  We were in 16th place after his leg, approximately 8.5 minutes out of first.  I then took the baton and by the time I had finished my leg I was in first place and in the lead by 1:54 over the second place runner.  The funniest thing is that I didn't even pass the guy in second until I had already passed the 4 mile mark.  After that, our team promptly fell out of first.  We finished 4th overall with a time of 3:13:XX.  The winning time was about 2:56:00.  I just thought that it was funny that I could have run the race alone and I could have won it by a considerable margin over the winning relay team.  After the race I ran more to finish with 17 miles for the day.  I was still sick when I ran the race this morning, and I think that I did surprisingly well considering that I wasn't feeling all that great.
