Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I ran 6 miles with Sasha this morning in 53:59 (one second under 9:00 pace!).  I felt good, and I didn't feel too tired considering the early morning wake-up.  I am glad that I was able to keep it super easy given the taper, and the temptation to run faster because of the lower mileage and fresh legs.

I ran this morning.  It was really easy, and I felt good.  My goal was not to beat the 8:00 guy.  I did not reach my goal as I stopped my watch at 31:59 after 4 miles.  This is because I did 2 accelerations to marathon pace during the last mile just to get my legs moving a little.  I am excited for St. George on Saturday.

After running this race I have had the weirdest feelings.  I have been preparing for this race for so long, and running so many miles, yet at the end of things I probably did no better than last year and my time was worse.  Despite everything that happened I find myself thinking, 'oh well, better luck next time'.  I am not depressed or super disappointed at how poorly I finished.  I just know that I need to keep training and that hopefully with some more experience I will do better the next time around.  This is all in stark contrast to what I was feeling after the Autumn Classic just a month ago, when I was so disappointed that I skipped the rest of my run that day, and got somewhat emotional.  Maybe the fact that I had 6 miles during the race when I already knew my fate took away the disappointment to a degree, and helped me to see the brighter picture at the end.  Maybe just trying to finish the race, when my vision was somewhat blurry and I felt like I could barely run because of the pain tempered me.  I really do not know.  What I do know is that I gave my all, and I did my best.  The mistakes I made resulted in me hitting a giant brick wall 20 miles in and dropped me from 3rd place to 15th by the end, but I finished.  I'll do better next time.

I rode the bike too and from school for a 6 mile running equivalent (18 miles total). I was tired from that, so I only ran 1 mile.

I only rode the bike home today, so I got 3 miles from that (10 miles total). I also ran 4 miles on the track so that I could bail at any time if I needed to.

I was more sore today than yesterday because of the biking (I think) so I only ran 3 miles easy with a couple of guys on the X-Country team.

I ran easy with Sasha this morning making it through 4 miles in 36:43. I am still somewhat sore, but more than anything I just feel tired. I just need to keep taking it easy for the next little while so that my body can recover.

I ran 6 miles with Sasha in the morning and then ran what I will count as 1 mile while running around at the region cross country meet.  The team placed 4th.  We really thought that we had a shot at placing higher but the guys ran well.  We are just lacking a solid number 2.  There is too much of a gap from him to the next guy.  However there was only a 9 second gap from runners 2 through 5 so that was good.

The bike got a flat, so I didn't ride it today.  I ran a hill workout with the Cross Country team.  We took the pace pretty easy coming downhill (9:00 pace) kept it faster on the rolling section, and took it hard up the hill, before coming downhill again.  Total of 5.5 miles.

I ran with Sasha today because school is off due to the start of the hunting season.  He wanted to run 400's so we were separated for a bit here and there, but we ran most of it together.  Total of 8 miles.  We also took Kimia in the afternoon to see if she could run a 5k without stopping.  She ran the first mile in 12:57 with minimal complaining.  Then she started saying that her stomach was hurting and she stopped and walked for a while.  She was still on pace for a 45:00 even after walking, but during the second half she decided to stop and sit down a number of times because she felt like she was going to throw up.  She ended up running the last .6 (approximately) without stopping (probably at about 14:00 pace) and finished in 55:47.

I ran 9 miles today, running most of it with Sasha and Tyler, and running all of it with Brandon.  We ran out to the 2 mile mark and then back to the start of the 5 mile tempo.  Sasha was running a 10 mile tempo (running the 5 mile tempo twice) and I ran the first half of it with him.  The goal was to stay right around 6:00 pace, no slower but not much faster.  We ended up running the first 5 miles in 29:32 at which point I headed back to Sasha's house with Brandon and he turned around to finish the run.  Total time for 9 miles 59:34.

I am getting too lazy at updating my mileage every Sunday.  I think that I need to do it daily instead (assuming that I stop being lazy when it comes to updating my blog every day)

I ran 6 miles after school today. I kept the pace pretty easy. I also rode the bike to school, and rode it half of the way home (Kimia picked me up on the way home because we were going to go to the store together) which gives me 4.5 running miles (13.5 miles total) for a total of 10.5 miles on the day.

I think that this is my first real goose egg this year.  I don't really have a good excuse either except that Kimia wasn't feeling well, so I stayed home with her.  I watched the Cross Country practice, but the guys were only running 1 mile because state is tomorrow.  I was planning on running once I got home, but after I got home, I spent the evening taking care of Kimia.  I did go to the store and I parked far away and then ran to the store and back, but I think that it only gave me about .25 round trip.

I have decided that after my recent laziness (related to running, and updating the blog) that I need to start focusing a bit more on my training. Taking a break after St. George was nice, but it is time to get back to work.

I ran with Sasha this morning. We finished up 8 miles in 59:34 (ironically that is the same amount of time it took me to finish 9 miles last Saturday). We did a pick up to 5:20 pace for 1000m so that Sasha could do a neural drive test to see if it improved due to a nap he took yesterday. In the afternoon I went to the state cross country meet and I got about 2 more miles in running around the cross country course cheering one the teams. I probably ran more than that, but I think counting 2 miles is good enough. I also rode the bike part of the way home, but Kimia picked me up so that we would have time to get to institute. I won't count any biking miles but I ended up biking about 4-5 miles.

I ran with Sasha this morning. Sarah had her baby in the middle of the night, so we had to vary the run a bit this morning. We ran out for 2.5 miles, and shortly before the 2 mile mark dropped off some soy milk at Luz's house so that Sasha's kids could have it (she was nice enough to take the kids in the middle of the night). I am adding .1 mile for the detour, but it might have been longer. We came back to his house so that Sasha could check on Sarah, and after running another 1.05 around the block, Sasha went in to take care of Sarah, and I finished up the run alone, running another 4 miles to finish in 1:12:24 for an approximate 10.15 miles (1:11:20 not counting the detour).

So, I have had a "smart" alarm clock for years now, which automatically sets itself whenever it gets plugged into the wall.  In the spring and the fall it sets itself for the beginning and end of daylight savings time.  However, a couple of years ago congress decided to change when daylight savings time started and ended, and now my clock changes the time a week early sometimes and a week late at others.  Anyhow, I did not know it, but my clock did that to us last night, and this morning I got up and got ready for church thinking it was an hour earlier than it really was.  I headed to church at 8:45 thinking that I was getting there 15 minutes early, when in reality it was 9:45 and I was showing up 45 minutes late.  Anyhow, I was rather surprised to see the church full when I arrived.  Since we missed the sacrament, Kimia and I decided to go to my sisters ward instead so that we could renew our covenants and not feel guilty about missing sacrament meeting.

I took the pace on today's run a little faster than normal.  I went up hobble creek canyon at just over 7:00 pace for 4.5 miles, and then came back faster.  On the way back I started chasing a lady on a bike for a little while, until she turned on a side street.  I finished up running 9 miles in 1:00:49.  I also rode the bike to school and home again.  This gave me a 6 mile biking equivalent (18 miles total).

I took it pretty easy today since I went a little quicker than planned yesterday and I rode the bike quite a bit.  I finished somewhere in the 1:17:00 range for 10 miles.  I am unsure about the total time because I accidentally cleared my watch before I finished.

I only rode the bike home today, so that gave me a 3 mile running equivalent.  After getting home, I ran 10 miles.  I only timed the first 9 miles, and I finished in 1:06:07 finishing at home.  I then ran another mile after I got home.

I ran 8 miles this morning with Sasha, finishing in 1:01:19. My leg, which has been bothering me off and on since May, is feeling better. I am hoping that I can stop worrying about it soon. I will run more this afternoon, and I will ride the bike home after that.

I ran about 3.5 miles with the Cross Country team this afternoon.  I was going to ride the bike home, but Kimia offered to pick me up, so I get a break today.

I was really tired last night, and I went to bed at 9:00.  I didn't get up until 7:00 this morning.  If I had gotten up any later I probably would have been late for school.  Anyhow, I ran 5.5 miles this afternoon with the Cross Country team.  They are still working out together because they are running at Foot Locker in December.  After we finished I went out for another 5 miles, after which I rode the bike home for a 3 mile running equivalent (10 miles total).
