Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

Kimia and I got home from Arizona late on Sunday, and I had a project due on Monday which was not finished until just before class Monday afternoon.  I ended up taking an extra day off on Monday to recover from the travel and the lack of sleep finishing the project.

the rest of the week went well, as I ran an 8.6 mile tempo home from school on Tuesday averaging 5:33 on the way home despite it being windy (I was late coming home and the bishop was coming to visit).  I also ran an 8.1 mile tempo at Sunset park on Saturday as part of my long run (2.7 mile loop x 3).  Wind was less of an issue on Saturday as I was on a loop and I got a little bit of everything, but the trail I was on does twist and turn a lot and there was a net slowing effect from the wind, it simply was not as pronounced as it usually is.  I averaged 5:30 for the tempo, while averaging 5:17 the last 2.7, and 5:26 for the 2.7 miles before that after an opening loop that was considerably slower.

So I realized that the details I put in for last week actually should belong with this week, but I don't feel like fixing it.  So, I think it is sufficient to simply state that what is written here should be swapped with what is written for last week (I did fix mileage, so the weekly mileage and shoe mileage is correct and should not be swapped).

Anyhow, two weeks ago I ran a 6 mile tempo run on Saturday as part of an 18 mile long run and I averaged about 5:40 pace for most of it.  I also did some speedwork during the week, mostly shorter repeats while running to school and the occasional "fat" mile.

I ran with Anita in the baby stroller on Monday.  A little over 12 miles total.  I ran to school most of the other days.  I ran my long run on Friday because we drove to California on Saturday and I ran 20 miles.  I didn't really push the long run much, but I kept the entire thing quick and I ended up hitting the last 5 miles in about 29 minutes.  Other than that my week was fairly boring.  I know that I did a little bit of speed work, but I don't remember how much.

I have been in California all week.  I am not sure how many miles of speedwork I have done exactly as I have just been throwing in some speed whenever I feel like it, so I will count 15 miles total as I ran an 11 mile tempo on Saturday, and I figure that I ran about 4 miles extra that were fast before then.  The Saturday tempo was at an average pace of 5:35.

I ran half of this week up until now in Campbell, and half in Concord.  I am blogging 4 miles of speedwork during the week, but it was honestly quite a bit more than that as I have been running a lot faster than normal on my runs, and I will randomly run a 6:00 mile on occasion.  I think it is because of the fact that I am sleeping a lot since I am on vacation (9-10 hours per night).  I just have more energy than normal.  I have been averaging 7:00 pace or faster on many of my runs since getting to California, although I kept the pace a lot slower today (Friday) as I have a race tomorrow, and I think that running this fast every day is not so good for me as my right calf is starting to act up a bit.
