Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

So, I ran Sasha's race this morning.  However, I did not run the race until after I had already gone out running for 15.1 miles.  I ran the first 10.1 miles before the race in 1:03:59 (32:41, 31:18 per 5.05 segment), followed by 5 more miles in 32:27 to hit 15.1 miles before the race in 1:36:26 (6:23 pace).  I slowed down just a little over the last 2 miles of my extended "warm-up" otherwise I would have been right on 6:20 pace.

At the start of the race some guy in grey took off and was way ahead of us for the first couple hundred meters.  I got excited because of this, and ran a little faster than I should have for the first little bit.  I ran with Sasha for the first 2 miles hitting them in 5:15 and 5:24 (10:39).  At two miles I took off to see if I could induce myself to crash because of lack of fuel.  I ran the third mile in 5:12 (15:51), but then lacked the motivation or the strength to really push it and closed with a 5:20 (21:11) and a 5:24 to finish in 26:35 by my watch.  The official time was 1 second slower.

So, it is the fastest I have ever ran the "5 mile tempo" by 15 or 16 seconds even though I was not fresh at all by the time the race started.  I did think that I had it in me to go faster, but I just wasn't feeling it today.  Either way it was a good workout, and I think that Sasha and Sarah did a good job of putting it together.  It is nice to have a nice little race with more of a community feel to it and less of the frills.

LOL at Paul!

Great job, Jeff. I can't believe you did that well on top of a 10 mile warmup.

Paul - we have an odd kind of raffle, the old fashioned kind :-) Whoever gets to the finish first wins it.

Tarzan, I think it was a 15.1 mile warm up. Good night!!! That is crazy speed! Glad you didn't crash your way out of 1st place.

Must feel good to get a PR after 15 miles at a good pace. Nice job!
