Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

After running this race I have had the weirdest feelings.  I have been preparing for this race for so long, and running so many miles, yet at the end of things I probably did no better than last year and my time was worse.  Despite everything that happened I find myself thinking, 'oh well, better luck next time'.  I am not depressed or super disappointed at how poorly I finished.  I just know that I need to keep training and that hopefully with some more experience I will do better the next time around.  This is all in stark contrast to what I was feeling after the Autumn Classic just a month ago, when I was so disappointed that I skipped the rest of my run that day, and got somewhat emotional.  Maybe the fact that I had 6 miles during the race when I already knew my fate took away the disappointment to a degree, and helped me to see the brighter picture at the end.  Maybe just trying to finish the race, when my vision was somewhat blurry and I felt like I could barely run because of the pain tempered me.  I really do not know.  What I do know is that I gave my all, and I did my best.  The mistakes I made resulted in me hitting a giant brick wall 20 miles in and dropped me from 3rd place to 15th by the end, but I finished.  I'll do better next time.

Marathons are such a crap shoot. It is to bad we can't go back and try again the next week. I know you have it in you do do great and wonderful things. But we all hit that wall one time or another. I am sorry it had to happen in this race. It should make you feel better that hardly any of us had good races.

You WILL do better next time. This marathon was such a fluke. You will be a force to reckon with in the future. You have the talent!

I absolutely agree with Lybi. You are bound to have a breakthrough race in the marathon in the near future. It was nice to meet you at the blogger party on Friday.

Jeff, you will have your race that you will peak at and have a good strategy to go along with it. I believe everytime you run a marathon you learn something from it and each time you gain the knowledge to know when to change things.

I've ran 17 marathons and I'm still learning. (This one never get ran over at the start, and not eat so late).

From Tom on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 18:27:49

Jeff you are one highly-talented runner. It was nice to meet you and Kimia again and chat a bit at the party and also at the gas station on the way home.

As the others mentioned this race was pretty much bad for everybody, quite the learning experience. I'm sure we'll be seeing great things from you next time around.
