Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I ran 6 miles with the team today. One of the guys wants to run a marathon in December and he is a Junior in High School. I don't really like the idea of it, but he says that his dad wants to run it with him. I just think he is too young. After finishing with the team I ran 4 more miles alone.

I ran with the team again.  They were doing 800 and 400 repeats.  I ran a few of them with the team, but only ran 100m hard on each repeat.  I ran the 800 in 3:01 followed by 3x400 in 1:17, 1:23, 1:18.  After that I watched the rest of their repeats and then ran a little more to finish with 6 miles for the day.  My original plan was to run 8 miles, but I ran the repeats a little harder than I was planning, so I decided to cut back the mileage.

I ran 6 miles with Sasha this morning in 53:59 (one second under 9:00 pace!).  I felt good, and I didn't feel too tired considering the early morning wake-up.  I am glad that I was able to keep it super easy given the taper, and the temptation to run faster because of the lower mileage and fresh legs.

I ran this morning.  It was really easy, and I felt good.  My goal was not to beat the 8:00 guy.  I did not reach my goal as I stopped my watch at 31:59 after 4 miles.  This is because I did 2 accelerations to marathon pace during the last mile just to get my legs moving a little.  I am excited for St. George on Saturday.

After running this race I have had the weirdest feelings.  I have been preparing for this race for so long, and running so many miles, yet at the end of things I probably did no better than last year and my time was worse.  Despite everything that happened I find myself thinking, 'oh well, better luck next time'.  I am not depressed or super disappointed at how poorly I finished.  I just know that I need to keep training and that hopefully with some more experience I will do better the next time around.  This is all in stark contrast to what I was feeling after the Autumn Classic just a month ago, when I was so disappointed that I skipped the rest of my run that day, and got somewhat emotional.  Maybe the fact that I had 6 miles during the race when I already knew my fate took away the disappointment to a degree, and helped me to see the brighter picture at the end.  Maybe just trying to finish the race, when my vision was somewhat blurry and I felt like I could barely run because of the pain tempered me.  I really do not know.  What I do know is that I gave my all, and I did my best.  The mistakes I made resulted in me hitting a giant brick wall 20 miles in and dropped me from 3rd place to 15th by the end, but I finished.  I'll do better next time.
