Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I met up with Solomon this morning.  We ran about 10 miles (probably a little more) in 1:07:40.  It is faster than I am used to, but my legs felt fine so I am not worried about recovery prior to running another half marathon time trial tomorrow morning.

PM:  4 miles in the evening in just under 31 minutes.  Felt good, but didn't run longer because I wanted to be done sooner so that I could get to bed early (I am getting up at 4:30am tomorrow morning)

Hey Jeff, I'm going to be in Vegas for the next two weeks for work. Any suggestions on where I should run early in the morning? Is running the strip going to be my best bet?

From jeffmc on Sun, Aug 21, 2011 at 17:54:54 from 68.227.0.14

Personally, I wouldn't run the strip. I would rather run on the treadmill at the hotel than on the strip (too much traffic, too crowded, and too much sin at the heart of 'sin city' for me). If you have trouble with the heat you may also want to consider running in the evening after it gets dark if you want to run outside (doesn't feel as hot even when temps are over 100) unless you plan on running at 5am just before it gets light. There are a few paved trails that you could try running on, but the closest one to the strip (that I know of) starts near the south side of the airport. There is also a track at UNLV (by the hard rock hotel) that you can run speedwork on.

Great, thanks for the info. I do run at 5:00am usually the majority of "sin" has found their cars and gone home by then. The track sounds like a good option, Is it open at 5:00? With lights?

From jeffmc on Sun, Aug 21, 2011 at 18:25:13 from 68.227.0.14

The track is left unlocked, so no worries there. No lights at the track, but by 5:00am it is usually light enough to see even though the sun has not risen yet, so I would not worry about that.
