Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I ran with Sasha this morning. We took our run really slow as we were discussing discrimination and whether or not straight men should be allowed to form civil unions if gay men (or women) are allowed to. We accidentally passed our mark so I think that we ran farther than 7 miles, but not by much. We finished our run in 58:45.

In the evening I ran another 6.25 miles alone in 48:56.  Nothing special to report.

So what was the outcome of the discussion? You probably shouldn't say because, well, let's not go there. We've seen the problems at the LA temple lately.

my personal thought is that gay couples should be allowed to form civil unions if they are not permitted to marry. That way they at least can benefit from the legal rights that this allows. However, I see no point in allowing straight couples to form civil unions. I just think that it would be too much of a hassle, and it would lead to more problems as sooner or later we would begin to see crazy stuff happen, like people forming civil unions with multiple individuals either of the same gender or mixed (it could end up turning into civil polygamy). But, in an area like California where civil unions are legal, if two straight guys tried to form a civil union I probably wouldn't do anything to stop them as I don't care enough about the issue to make a stand.

I shoould probably put some more thought into it, but my initial impressions are that of the bonds of a family. A man and a woman unite and become one. They have children. All are dependant on one another. They are entitled to the benefits of a civil union. Homosexuals hook up purely for sexual pervesions. They falsely convince themselves that they love each other. That same bond does not exist. They should not be entitled to any benefits based off an immoral lifestyle. But now that I voiced my opinion, my blog is going to get hacked into and turned into a gay porn site.

Aren't you glad your blog didn't explode like Sasha's on this topic?
