Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I decided that this week I would run an "easy" 20 miler, meaning that I would not hammer out a long tempo run at a fast pace.  I still wanted to get the run done however, so I was not about to take my time to run 20 miles.  I made it through the first 5 miles in 35:56.  I passed 2 sets of missionaries during these miles.  The second set of missionaries was going the same direction as me, and they were on bikes.  They were surprised to see a guy pass them while on foot.  I made it through the next 5 miles in 34:28.  I suspect that this 5 mile section may have been a little long.  Total time of 1:10:24 at the turn around.  The next 5 mile section took me 32:50 (1:43:14 for 15 miles).  I timed myself over a two mile stretch that was measured on the road during these miles in 12:26.  That is part of why I think that this 5 mile stretch may be long, but I can't be sure unless I measure it.  I passed a third set of missionaries during this section of the run.  I am not sure if seeing all of these missionaries was a good thing or not.  On the one hand I know that they were out working, which is good, however seeing them out also means that they were not inside teaching anyone, which is not so good.  On the bright side, at least I know that they were out trying to find people to teach!  I finished up running the last 5 mile section in 28:25 to finish 20 miles with a total time of 2:11:39.  The last 5 miles was downhill, so I really was not pushing it that hard, but I was happy to go under 30:00 by as much as I did.
