Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I ran to school this morning.  On the way I ran approximate 2 mile, then 1 mile intervals.  I use the streets to measure out the mileage, and while I don't know if any of the intervals are the exact distance I want, I know that they are close.  I also know that the individual "miles" in the 2 mile interval are the same distance.  The same can not be said for the 1 mile interval.  While I know that the distance is very close to 1 mile I am not sure how close the distance is to the other 2 miles, as the street distances get messed up in that part of town.

Anyhow, I ran the 2 mile interval in 10:53 (5:39, 5:14) with a solid head wind the first mile, followed by a cross/tail wind the second mile after I turned North onto Eastern Ave.  The result was a very slow first mile, and a second mile that was aided ever so slightly, as the effort during the 2 miles probably would have given me something like a 5:22, 5:18 split without wind.  I ran the last fast mile after a 1 mile rest somewhere in the 5:24-5:28 range (I was unsure about my ending point so I took my split at two different spots).  This mile also had a headwind that was similar to the headwind I had earlier on, but I was pushing harder.  I finished 8.8 miles in 1:00:26.

PM:  I ran part of the way home, about 5.2 miles total and Kimia picked me up.  I also ran a couple of strides just before getting picked up.
