Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I ran to school this morning with a total time of 1:02:45 for 8.6 miles.  My HR was still higher than it should have been, but it was not as high as yesterday when pace is taken into consideration.  Average HR of 142, which is about 5-7 bpm higher than it should have been.  Hopefully I can find out soon what my problem is.

jeff...I think you are going to need an exercise stress test with a cardiologist monitoring you ekg during exercise. ask your doctor to refer you to a cardiologist.

Jake,

The shoes already got here in the mail arriving today, which is a quick turnaround seeing that I only found out about a week and a half ago that I had won.

Dad,

I am going to meet with a Sports Medicine specialist next Tuesday, and I will go from there. The blood work came back fairly normal, but maybe there is something abnormal considering I am a runner. I will ask her about running a stress test.

Do you know of any hormones that can potentially cause spikes in HR? I want to rule out any possibility of an auto-immune disorder in addition to heart problems, etc.

hyperthyroidism ( suppressed TSH) can elevate your HR. also pheochromocytoma (but your blood pressure should be elevated too with that. glad you are seeing a sports med doc. she should send you to a cardiologist.
