I wasn't planning on running as much as I did today, but Kimia wanted to run a time trial for the mile since we are at sea level in California and I ended up running twice. I ran 8 miles easy in the morning, and in the evening I paced Kimia to a new pr in the mile in 8:17 (1:52, 2:10, 2:08, 2:07). The track we were on was a quarter mile track, not a 400m track so we didn't need to worry about adding on extra distance at the end. it was pretty obvious that Kimia went out too fast as she ran the first lap 15 seconds faster than any other, and she had splits of 0:52 and 1:00 for that first lap. I was worried that she would fade a lot at the end, but I was impressed with how she held it together. To top it off, there was a good amount of wind, and even with drafting off of me, Kimia told me afterwards that she was really struggling into the wind. The 1:52 first lap, and particularly the 52 second first half lap tells me that if Kimia simply maintains some consistency and builds mileage she will be able to break 7:00 for the mile eventually. |
