Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

Easy run this morning.  I ran 1 mile on the track at the high school to give myself a better feel for how fast I am going when I run easy around here.  Not being at altitude throws me off a bit, and now I don't have a trail to run on with markers every 1/16th of a mile.  I will probably be wearing the HRM a little more around here to make sure that I do not start running too hard on my easy runs.  Average HR stayed around 130 today, which felt good.  Pace on the track was at 7:20 at that HR.  Total time of 1:14:14 for the run.

Drove to California in the afternoon with Kimia's dad.  I will be up here for a little over a week before going back to Vegas to start school.

Just realized Mike Schramm is on the blog, and he lives in Las Vegas. See if you can get in touch with him.

What's the altitude in Vegas?

From Schramm on Wed, Aug 04, 2010 at 12:48:47 from 198.203.175.175

Hi Jeff, this is Mike Schramm, and I have lived in Vegas for about 20 years, although I spend each weekend in So. Utah.

Welcome to Vegas, it has quite the reputation, but there are some positives to living here, but unfortunately, one of them is not the running scene. Vegas is not very running friendly. I do have some suggestions for your running if you are interested, my email is schrammruns@yahoo.com.

Anyway, good luck here in Vegas. There is a great 5k this Saturday the 7th of Aug if you are in town, the Legends 5k, which promises to be a fast one. Other than this one, and maybe a couple of others, the races here aren't that great.

I am not completely sure what the altitude is in Las Vegas. My best guess is that the altitude could be anywhere between 1000 and 2000 ft above sea level depending on where you are at. I will need to look into that.

The elevation of Las Vegas is about 2000 ft. Henderson is a bit lower, but not much, about 1900 ft above sea level.

I thought it had to be somewhere around there, knowing you make a bit of a climb coming up from the Hoover Dam.
